Online information for women and their families regarding reduced fetal movements is of variable quality, readability and accountability

•The quality of online information regarding reduced fetal movements is variable.•Twenty websites (28.5%) were at the recommended reading level.•The majority of websites had low levels of accountability.•Forty-nine websites (70%) contained information not in accordance with recommendations.•Findings suggest women wanted to confirm normality and were anxious and uncertain.
