Sensitivity improvement of the surface acoustic wave ultraviolet sensor based on zinc oxide nanoparticle layer with an ultrathin gold layer

•SAW UV sensor which has a high sensitivity was developed.•An ultrathin gold layer improved the sensitivity of the SAW UV sensor.•Annealing in oxygen and air ambience was conducted for the UV response time.•The sheet conductivity of films was estimated by transmission line method.
