•1-D Ag/AgVO3 nanoribbon was synthesized via in situ reduction of AgVO3 by NaBH4.•FDTD simulation confirms the SPR and electric field enhancement.•DFT indicates that Ag formed could narrow the band gap of AgVO3.•h+ and O2− are the main reactive species for degradation of BF.
