摘要
We apply Boltzmann transport theory to investigate the possible effect of an anisotropic scattering time tau on the temperature dependence of the Hall coefficient R-H in quasi-one-dimensional (q1D) conductors. Specifically we show that the measured R-H in two candidate materials (TMTSF)(2)PF6 and PrBa2Cu4O8 can be accounted for almost entirely by using a model that assumes only weak sinusoidal variation of tau along the Fermi surface. While the temperature dependence of R-H is markedly different in the two cases, the variations in tau are found to be almost identical. This work highlights the importance of considering the anisotropy of the electrical resistivity in any analysis of R-H(T) in q1D systems and hints that the momentum dependence of the inelastic scattering rate, and thus its origin, are rather generic in both organic and inorganic q1D metals.
