Prevalence of Nosocomial Infection among In-patients:Analysis of 570 Cases

OBJECTIVE To find out the prevalence and the characteristics of nosocomial infection,as well as the use of antibacterial drugs.METHODS A combination of various methods was used as follows,uniform training of investigators,asking for medical history to the bedside,physical examination and medical records of the investigation within a day.Besides,filled out the uniform questionnaires,and the cases with nosocomial infection on the investigative day were analyzed statistically.RESULTS Among 573 cases,570 cases were investigated actually and the investigative rate was 99.48%.Thirty-four cases were infected nosocomially and the prevalence of nosocomial infection(5.97%) was higher than the other roatine-days.The lower respiratory tract was the main site of nosocomial infection and the infection rate was 44.12%.The risk factors were tracheotomy or the use of ventilator(accounted for 30.43%).Fourteen strains were detective in which 4 were P.aeruginosa isolates,and 9 were from the lower respiratory tract.The rate of antibiotics being used for the investigation day was 42.86%.CONCLUSIONS Investigations for the prevalence provide reliable evidences for prevention and control of nosocomial infection.
