Is Adolescence an Independent Risk Factor for Rejection in Pediatric Heart Transplantation, Independent of Age at Listing?

Despite improving survival in pediatric heart transplantation, patients transplanted during adolescence have increased risk for rejection as compared to younger transplant recipients. It remains unclear whether this risk is incurred by all patients once they enter adolescence, even if they were transplanted prior to their teen years.
