Abstract
Enterovirus 71 (Ev71) is a viral pathogen that may make children morbidity and mortality within 2-4 days after development of rash. Early detection of Ev71 can reduce mortality rate and neurologic sequella of infected children. At the same time, the incidence and prevalence can be reduced by early isolation Ev71 carriers.Conventional detection device is not sensitive enough for early detection of Ev71. It is known that the AC signal of electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) provide more information for detecting the small amount bio-molecules, such as protein, RNA and DNA. In this study, we have created a portable electrochemical impedance spectrometer and a specific probe for rapid and high sensitive Ev71 detection. The antibody and deactivated virus samples are obtained from Centers for Disease Control, Taiwan, R.O.C. By EIS analysis, the difference between Ev71 and Coxsackie A16 virus (CA16) can be characterized and the detection limit for EV71 is as low as 29.8 /50μl. At the same time, the over all detection time can be finished within ten minutes. This is the most sensitive and rapid Ev71 detection platform to our knowledge.
