•Regioselective synthesis of sulfated Artemisia sphaerocephala polysaccharides was studied.•Triphenylchloromethane was employed as a key protected precursor.•The DS of sulfated Artemisia sphaerocephala polysaccharides were 0.44–0.63.•The current studies are focus on structure characterization.
