Abstract
•Paleoproterozoic 13C-rich carbonates from the Pechenga Belt were investigated.•FAR-DEEP core-based, new δ13C, δ18O, elemental and petrographic data are provided.•Carbonate precipitates and background, bedded, lacustrine carbonates were compared.•Precipitates include cavity and vein fills and surficial crusts and cements.•Precipitates are likely thermal and “cave” travertines with deep-sourced CO2.
