Abstract
The cover picture shows the sunrise over the San Francisco Bay on a morning in late January, from behind the chemistry building at Genentech, Inc. The chemical schematic on the horizon depicts a sequential C3 and C5 direct arylation of C–H bonds on an imidazo[1,2-a]pyrazine core. Falling out from the scheme down to the water are the various heteroaromatic products that can be produced by this method. Details are discussed in the Short Communication by B. M. Johnson and M. P. Huestis on p. 1589 ff. The authors would like to warmly thank Nicole Blaquiere for photography and Brian S. Safina for artistic inspiration and assistance with graphics software.
