Use of wastes for sustainable pulp production at 'Svilosa' JSC.

Considerable quantities of wastes are separated from pulp production. Their utilisation and transformation in secondary raw material permit decrease of the outlay for energy and raw materials and help for achieving of sustainable production. Subject of our studies are wastes, generated from pulp production in 'Svilosa' JSC, near the city of Svishtov, Bulgaria. Major separated wastes are: rinds, small slivers, wastes from sorting out, cellulose, alkaline-cellulose, wastes from calcinations and hydrolysis of lime, sludges from cleaning of waste gases, ashes, cast-off petroleum oils, etc. On the basis of the present investigation it was found that, nowadays, the bigger part of them are dumped, which is the cause for prime cost increase of the finished products. Also it was found that most of these wastes could be utilised as secondary raw materials (for production of new products, for example: soil conditioners, tall oils, etc.) and/or production of energy. Some technological solutions for utilisation of wastes from pulp production are showed.
