Evaluation of CO2 liquefaction processes for ship-based carbon capture and storage (CCS) in terms of life cycle cost (LCC) considering availability

•Four CO2 liquefaction systems are suggested for the ship transport of CO2 in CCS.•Four systems are evaluated in terms of life cycle cost with unavailability cost.•The operational expenditure is the most crucial cost in the life cycle cost.•The CAPEX and unavailability costs are approximately 11% and 9% of the LCC.•The closed system shows lower life cycle cost than others under given conditions.
