•Long-term geochemical reactivity of CO2 storage in saline aquifers is examined.•Reactive minerals, including Dawsonite, are selected from natural analogs data.•Pitzer databases to be used for simulations in saline aquifers but are incomplete.•Ketzin, In Salah and Snøhvit CO2 storage sites are considered as case studies.•It shows the importance of the conceptual model, the activity model and the database.
