Abstract
The limiting resolution of low-light-level image intensifier is one of the most important indexes to evaluate the image intensifier. Current research on the limiting resolution is based on modulation transfer function. Because of idealization, some factors, especially for MCP, affecting limiting resolution are simplified and ignored, and deviation exists in the theory and the test result. In order to enhance the limiting resolution, in this paper, the electron transport in MCP and second proximity space is simulated by Monte Carlo method, in which the factors such as discrete of MCP, output angle of electron from end point of MCP, electron field affected by MCP are considered. According to the statistic of electron distribution on the surface of phosphor screen, the point distribution function of image intensifier was obtained, and the theory limiting resolution was calculated. Comparing the result with testing result, the simulated result agrees well with the result got by transfer function method.
