The popularity of the supporting cast in Hindi cinema

In the analysis of the popularity of Hindi cinema during its formative decades in the post-Independence period, the presence of supporting cast played by minor characters has received little attention. Using the Rasa theory of cinematic performance, this paper argues that the characters of Hindi cinema have succeeded in establishing a relationship with the viewers that encourages them to return regularly to movie theatres.
