Functional Biomass Carbons with Hierarchical Porous Structure for Supercapacitor Electrode Materials

•We successfully prepared bamboo-derived porous carbon with B and N co-doping.•This novel carbon exhibits significantly enhanced specific capacitance and energy density.•The highest specific capacitance exceeds those of most similar carbon materials.•Asymmetric supercapacitor based on this carbon shows satisfactory capacitive performance.
