Abstract
An increased interest has been recently reported on eye lens doses received by the medical personnel of interventional radiology/cardiology suites. According to ICRP recommendations and the new EU Directive, for occupational exposure in planned exposure situations, an equivalent dose limit for the lens of the eye of 20 mSv in a year, averaged over defined periods of 5 years, with no single year exceeding 50 mSv is recommended. In the medical field, interventional radiologists and cardiologists are among the most highly exposed personnel, since they stay close to the patient, source of scattered radiation, while performing complicated fluoroscopically guided interventional procedures.
