TiO 2 hollow microspheres with mesoporous surface: Superior adsorption performance for dye removal

•TiO2 hollow microspheres were synthesized by a facile template-assisted solvothermal reaction.•TiO2 hollow microspheres possess three-dimensional hollow structure and well-developed mesoporous surface.•The adsorption capacity of TiO2 with hollow structure is markedly higher than that of solid microsphere.•The maximum adsorption capacity of TiO2 hollow microspheres for MB reached 196.83mg/g.
