Phenol degradation in heterogeneous system generating singlet oxygen employing light activated electropolymerized phenothiazines

•The stable polymeric film produces singlet oxygen when illuminated by daylight.•Phenothiazines are used in a form of thin polymeric films on a transparent substrate.•Degradation of phenol by singlet oxygen occurs at illuminated films.•Effectiveness of phenol degradation by five phenothiazines is evaluated.
