Abstract
In the surroundings of the Laguna de Rocha, the area dedicated to agricultural activities has increased as well as the use of pesticides. One of these pesticides is the glyphosate herbicide, used mainly for farming soy.By employing the Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) technique, the presence of glyphosate in the lagoon and some of its tributaries was tested in two specific moments in time. Glyphosate was detected in 27 out of 28 studied samples. Positive results in samples tested with ELISA were further confirmed by Ion Chromatography. The ELISA method proved to be a suitable screening tool for determining the presence of glyphosate in water.
