Harmonization and Competition: Analysis on Feasibility of Chinese-style Wrestling Becoming an Olympic Event

The Olympic Games is the most cohesion and largest sports event in nowadays world and attracts the world's attention. Bringing the national sport into the Olympic Games is an important way to internationalize national culture. The Chinese government tried to make wushu become an olympic event but failed repeatedly. The reason is contradiction between harmony thought in Chinese traditional culture and competition thought in western culture. This paper made a comparison between wushu and Chinese-style wrestling by methods of literature review and logical reasoning. It pointed out that routine oriented wushu lost its attack character,thereby lost its basic to become an olympic event. On the contrary,Chinese-style wrestling is closer to competition character and requirement of olympic event which make it possible to be an olympic event. This paper suggested that making depth conformity between wushu and Chinese-style wrestling will help to speed up it becoming an olympic event. This article hoped to provide a new train of thought to speed up internationalization of Chinese national sports.
