A Review of Mobile Apps for Improving Quality of Life of Asthmatic and People with Allergies

The quality of life of people with allergies to airborne substances can be improved if they are able to avoid areas with allergens. Airborne allergens information systems have become an important area of research and development. Systems that allow allergic people to know about the presence of allergens are in constant development. This is especially true in systems that report about airborne allergens, such as pollen. The massive deployment of Information and Communication Technologies makes this kind of systems available to anyone in the form of mobile applications. This paper reviews the available mobile applications for pollen information. After performing this analysis, we concluded that there is scope for research into new information systems for airborne allergens' information. These newsystems could be based on technologies such as distributed intelligent systems, the Internet of Things and Smart Cities initiatives, aimed to solve problems of nowadays systems, such as internationalization and interoperability.
