Abstract
Surface water heat pump (SWHP) systems utilize lakes, rivers, oceans, and other surface water bodies to provide heat sources and heat sinks for heat pumps. These systems provide energy-efficient heating and cooling to buildings. Though more than 65 years have passed since the first reported installation, there remains a paucity of design data. This chapter summarizes the state of the art in SWHP system design and performance.
