Educational Sociolinguistics: Increasing Competence In Language Usage

This work aims to demonstrate how Sociolinguistic and its presuppositions can enlarge the linguistic competence of students in process of comprehension and domain of language. One strategy is leading them to think about the use of language according to the most diversified social and interactional contexts and enable you to understand that the language is heterogeneous, undergoes variations and changes, processes that are also related to socio-cultural diversity. For this, an action research was conducted with ninth year students from a private school in Juiz de For a, MG, who searched for the effects of linguistic change from the use of relative pronouns as the representative process of language variation in news and reports. In view of this, we observed that students have assimilated the concept of linguistic variation and realized from the activities carried out, the language is heterogeneous and changeable.
