Opportunities of transition for school building, particularly in changes of educational space in school buildings of public primary schools, are created thanks to reformation and evolution of education in Taiwan. One of the changes relates to a planning pattern significantly different from the traditional pattern featuring a single classroom space and increasingly observed at rapid pace among those constructional projects of primary schools awarded in recent years, characterized by a set of ”clustered classrooms” resulted from the transformation of the space of multiple classrooms in conjunction with multipurpose learning space. In respect of such a brand-new pattern of school building space, this study attempts to explore into the profile of the actual occupancy of the space by means of the post-occupancy evaluation of the environment as built, and further to verify the design of the space planning. In this paper, evaluation, analysis and discussion will be given in two major subjects comprised of ”multipurpose learning space” and ”extracurricular space”, within, the former includes issues of multipurpose learning space, topic learning corner, demonstration space, scale of grades and number of schoolchildren that constitute the clustered classrooms. Based on the findings of evaluation, comments and propositions will be present for reference by schools of similar type in their future planning and by the existing schools in their operation and management.
