1214 Characteristics of Young Driver in Car Following Situation

Drive recorders were put on young driver's vehicles in order to investigate characteristic of car following situations. A new index DTC(Danger To Coffision) was introduced instead of conventional MTC(Margin To Coffision). DTCmeans that host vehicle's deceleration level to avoid rear end coffision in sudden stop of preceding vehicle. This work demonstrates that young drivers show moderate DTC peak behavior compared with taxi drivers, and, young persons drive more dangerous manner in ordinary situations, 2 andlor 3 seconds before the peak time of DTC.
