Abstract
We report here a case of chondrosarcoma of the sphenoid sinus. A 60-year-old male patient visited our clinic with symptoms of left nasal obstruction. CT scan and MRI showed a giant irregular tumor shadow occupying the whole sphenoid sinus and extending into the left nasal cavity and the clivus. The tumor was diagnosed histologically as a well-differentiated chondrosarcoma and removed surgically under an operating microscope by lateral rhinotomy using a combined extranasal and transmaxillary approach. We didn't resect the tumor radically because of the patient's age and associated chronic hepatitis.Radiation therapy was performed postoperatively. A follow up examination two years postoperatively revealed that the patient had no tumor recurrence.
