Abstract
We measured bone mineral density (BND) in the lumbar spine by DEXA and bone mineral density (ΣGS/D) in metacarpal bone by the DIP method. Both (frontal, lateral) BMD and ΣGS/D decreased with increasing age. A correlation coefficient between BMD and ΣGS/D was found. The qroup with compression fractures of the spine had significantly less BMD and ΣGS/D than the non-compression fracture group. The DIP method was found to be useful in creening for osteoporosis.
