Bone Mineral Density of the Lumbar Spine Studied Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry and of Metacarpal Bone Using Digital Image Processing.
Orthopaedics and Traumatology(1994)
Abstract
We measured bone mineral density (BND) in the lumbar spine by DEXA and bone mineral density (ΣGS/D) in metacarpal bone by the DIP method. Both (frontal, lateral) BMD and ΣGS/D decreased with increasing age. A correlation coefficient between BMD and ΣGS/D was found. The qroup with compression fractures of the spine had significantly less BMD and ΣGS/D than the non-compression fracture group. The DIP method was found to be useful in creening for osteoporosis.
