摘要
In order to investigate discrete sources of ultra‐high energy gamma rays, by studying extensive air showers, we require an apparatus with good resolution, both in angle and energy, as well as good sensitivity. In our study we consider an array of n2 detectors, unifirmly placed on an area, L2, of ∼10 Km2, with detectors separated from each other by a spacing, d.We analyze the dependence of the resolution and sensitivy on the spacing d, using a Monte Carlo technique. A realistic lateral distribution of particle density is used to generate numbers of detected particles in each detector. Shower directions are obtained from timing data simulated using the MLPW particle delay distribution calculated by Mikocki, Linsley, Poirier and Wrotniak. Experimental errors in measuring particle numbers and arrival times in the detectors are included in the simulation. Such an array can be used to perform gamma ray astronomy studies, for example in the SINGAO experiment, foreseen to be built in southern Italy, which will make use of RPC detectors.
