The reduction of noise emission gains increasing importance in a variety of technical …elds. The huge cost of experimental equipment and measurements on one hand, and enhancements in computational technology on the other hand, make computational acoustics a valuable tool in noise prediction and reduction. Sound generated by an airfoil in the wake of a rod is predicted numerically from a Detached-Eddy-Simulation (DES) of the unsteady ‡ow …eld. The Ffowcs Williams and Hawkings (FW-H) acoustic analogy is used to model the propagation of the sound. This paper shows that computational acoustics methods can be used to predict both to sound pressure level and frequency spectra with engineering accuracy. The predictions are in good agreement with numerical and experimental data reported in the literature.
