Abstract
Programs to reduce inequalities between countries and between individuals have raised conscience of the issue of poverty and fostered the implementation of measurement and analytical techniques. In Burkina Faso, poverty reduction strategies remain primarily driven by studies of its monetary aspects. Empirical analysis using a factor approach shows that the incidence of poverty is high, particularly for multidimensional basic needs poverty and subjective poverty. A cumulative analysis of the set of poverty kernels indicates that 37.7% of households experience all three forms of poverty following a simple intersection method, whereas only 12.3% are in poverty according to the factor analysis, identifying the hard core of poverty. Government should promote policies targeting each dimension of poverty emphasizing rural development through access to basic social services.
