Power Loss In A Planetary Gearbox

In this work a single stage multiplying gearbox with helical gears was tested in a back-to-back gearbox test rig. The tests were conducted at low speeds and moderate loads. The gearbox oil sump temperature was set free, and the tests were conducted until stabilized operating conditions were attained. At stabilized conditions the difference between the oil sump temperature and room temperature is an indication of the power losses in the gearbox, allowing the ranking of the tested gear oils.Four fully formulated wind turbine gear oils (ISO VG 320) were tested, a mineral, mineral+PAMA, PAO and a PAG.
