Reproduction, Events and Management: Pregnancy: Control of Estrous Cycles: Synchronization of Ovulation and Insemination

Current systems of reproductive management have optimized control of ovarian follicle development and corpus luteum function in a sequential manner to permit a Timed Artificial Insemination with excellent and good fertility in dairy heifers and lactating dairy cows, respectively. The subtle differences among protocols are applicable and amenable to the characteristics and goals of the dairy operation. The protocols are founded on a thorough understanding of reproductive physiology and endocrinology and the use of physiological hormones produced normally in dairy cows. Protocols and management systems have been replicated extensively, evaluated thoroughly and cost benefits to the producer projected. Uses of Assisted Reproductive Technology are contributing to advances in milk production and genetic merit of the dairy herd.
