Wireless Sensor used in Indoor Air Quality Monitoring System

The purpose of this study is to build an indoor air quality monitoring system using wireless sensor networks (WSNs) and cloud computing technologies. To enhance the flexibility and convenience of the system, we propose a remote parameter adjustment and firmware update mechanism for the sensors. This protocol allows users to adjust the functionality of wireless gas sensors to cater to their own needs. When our firmware update mechanism is compared with Deluge, the experimental results show that our firmware update mechanism is superior to Deluge in terms of transmission speed (67% faster), transmission volume (67% less data sent), refresh rate (1.79 times faster), and power consumption (87% lower). Our system has been deployed at 4 different areas in Taiwan at a cost 75% lower than with traditional monitoring method.
