Results From a Full-Scale Propeller Icing Test

Tests to investigate and document leading-edge and runback propeller ice accretions in Appendix C icing conditions, as well as an attempt to approximately duplicate a propeller ice accretion from a Mitsubishi MU-2B flight test propeller which experienced full-span ice accretion in suspected supercooled large drop (SLD) icing conditions were conducted in the McKinley climactic chamber, Eglin AFB, in November 2006. This paper reviews the test objectives, setup, and resulting data.
