Abstract
We report a case of neurofibroma of the hand. A 76-year-old man developed a tumor with pain in his right hand dorsal side. An oval tumor with a low echogenicity was seen under subcutis by ultrasound examination. MR imaging showed this tumor as low intensity on T1 weighted image and high intensity on T2 weighted image.Exploration revealed a tumor engulfing the radial nerve and clearly separating it from surrounding structures. A meticulous dissection under magnification was successful in isolating the tumor from the nerve leaving the nerve attenuated.Histologically, the tumor was comprised of hypertrophied nerve bundles with proliferating Schwann cells, and fibroadipose tissue typical of neurofibroma.Postoperatively the patient developed slight hypesthesia in the cutaneous distribution of the nerve, but severe pain disappeared.
