摘要
INTRODUCTION: Wound healing is the process of tissue repair involving the tissue response to injury. Many factors such as ageing, malnutrition, radiation and diseases like diabetes and hypertension are associated with delayed wound healing. Collagen form tight cross links to other collagen and with protein molecule, increasing strength of scar. Impairments in the production and degradation of wound collagen have been demonstrated in Diabetes. The flower buds of Micheliachampacabelonging to family Magnoliaceae is commonly used by many traditional healers in most of herbal preparations for diabetes.Flower and flower buds, fruits werefound to be useful in ulcers, skin disease and wounds. A survey of literature revealed that the diabetic wound healing activity of Micheliachampaca has not been evaluated, so we decided to undertake this study on wound healing of diabetic rats. MATERIALS AND METHODS:Ethanolic extract from the flowers of Micheliachampaca, in graded doses were administered both topically (1%, 5%, 10% ) and orally in different groups of animals. Hydroxyproline was estimated in wound tissue and compared with each group as an index of wound healing. The dose for oral administration was determined after acute toxicity study. RESULT:Total of 24 albino rats were taken up and divided into 4 groups of 6 each. In all diabetes was induced by giving-----. The control group did not receive any treatment. Study group was divided into 3 groups depending on the dose. There was a significant increase (p>0.001 ) in concentration of hydroxyproline as compared to controls. CONCLUSION:This indicates the a potential role in wound healing in diabetes.
