Crystallization of phycobilinproteins of a Cyanobacterium (Calothrix elenkinii (Koss))

Bilin-based fluorescent proteins, phycoerythrin, inducible phycocyanin, and constitutive phycocyanin, were isolated from cyanobacterium Calothrix elenkiniii by native gel electrophoresis. The purified proteins were crystallized in MgSO4 precipitation solution. Isolation method of the bilin protein by native gel electrophoresis is easiest method, time consuming and pure, crystallization of these economically important phycobilin proteins is reliable.
