A preliminary investigation of resonance production in 7 GeV/c\(\pi ^ + p\) interactions indicates that the production rates and characteristics of the A1, the A2, and the B mesons are similar to those observed at lower energies. The cross-section for the channelN*(1238)+A2 is comparable in size to that for p+A 2 + (∼200 μb). Small A1 and B enhancements are evident in our data. A model which considers the peripheral nature of the pion-nucleon interaction is found to be only partially successful in accounting for the A1 and the B on the basis of their being kinematic reflections.
