Abstract
The penetration mechanics into impacted particulate media involves destruction and abrasion as well as the motion of particles. There are various experimental and theoretical studies on impacted particulate media [1, 2, 3, 4]. However, compared to materials which are single phase, particulate media tend to be less well characterized and consequently less understood, in particular, when subjected to hypersonic impact. This paper reports the result of preliminary tests to obtain quantitative information on the target/penetrator interaction.
