A CORPUS BASED STUDY FOR DESIGNING LANGUAGE RESOURCES IN BASQUE FOR ACADEMIC PURPOSES

This paper presents the methodology employed to design a prototype of the linguistic resources that need to be created for undergraduate students in academic contexts in Basque. The need to create new resources has been detected after an analysis of the error types that students make in academic contexts. After creating a typology and a database of the errors, a thorough analysis of the existing resources to overcome the linguistic difficulties has been carried out. One important conclusion reached in the project is that the existing resources for solving basic grammatical issues are not adequate either linguistically (because the explanations given are too simple and are not precise enough from a linguistic point of view) or contextually (because the employed examples are not adapted to specialized uses of the language). A protocol that gathers the necessary aspects that resources should contain has been designed for the instances in which new resources need to be created.
