Lifetime Measurements for the First 2{sup +} States in {sup 162,} {sup 164}Gd Populated by the beta Decay of {sup 162,} {sup 164}Eu

Lifetimes of the first 2(+) states in Gd-162,Gd- 164 have been measured by means of beta - gamma delayed coincidence technique for mass-separated Eu-162 and Eu-164 isotopes. Using the obtained lifetimes tau(Gd-162) = 3.98(8) ns and tau(Gd-164) = 4.0(2) ns, B(E2;0(+) square 2(+)) values were deduced as B(E2;0(+) square 2(+)) (Gd-162) = 5.45(11) e(2)b(2) and B(E2;0(+) square 2(+)) (Gd-164) = 5.2(3) e(2)b(2).
