Abstract
The aim of this study was to establish if there is a correlation between caries activity parameters and salivary biochemical compounds in caries active and caries free children. Material and method: salivary tests and biochemical assay were performed on saliva samples collected from 120 children divided in 2 groups according to their carious status. The results indicated that the mean value of calcium and phosphorus is decreased in caries active children when compared to caries free children and the difference is statistically significant and also the concentration of glucose is increasing in caries active children when compared to the control group. Using more parameters in the evaluation of salivary anti-carious activity and applying them frequently in everyday practice will become an important tool in predicting caries risk.
