Research on Visualization of Ocean Environment Data Using ArcGIS

ArcGIS is a series of geographic information system (GIS) software that has been widely applied in many industries in people’s daily life. However, there are few applications in the ocean domain. This article discussed the basic concepts and methods of using ArcGIS to visualize ocean environment data and an experiment based on Hong Kong water quality monitoring stations data was conducted. The results show that ArcGIS can be very helpful and powerful when dealing with ocean environment data and it can make a significant contribution to the protection of the ocean ecological environment. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2015.
