Spectroscopic Studies Of Mass-Separated Heavy Nuclei

EC and alpha decays of neutron-deficient nuclei Am233-236 have been studied using: a gas-jet coupled on-line isotope separator. A proton orbital of the ground state of Am-235 and neutron orbitals in Pu-235 have been estimated from a decay scheme of 235Am. The 5(-) ground state and the 1(-) EC decaying isomer in Am-236 and the configuration of two-quasiparticle states in Pu-236 have been established. Q alpha values of Am-233,Am-235,Am-236 have been determined from measured alpha -particle energies. It was found that evaluated Q alpha values were systematically overestimated by 100-200 keV in neutron-deficient Am nuclei.
