This paper presents a program that addresses the data privacy and data breach management issues that undermine customer trust in the firm. In doing so the rationale for the need for data breach programs, the size and scope of data breaches, why firms fail to implement such programs and the elements of such a training program to reduce data breaches are presented. Special emphasis is on the impact of data breaches on customer trust in the firm, the reasons for the failure of organizations to address customer privacy and data breaches and the role of individual in the firm. Finally we recommended elements required for a training program for personnel to support the organization's data privacy, data security and data breach management policies.
