Environment in pediatric wards: light, sound, and temperature

•Sleep quality affects the disease recovery, especially during hospitalization.•Environmental factors contribute to a poor sleep quality during hospitalization.•Light, sound, and temperature were objectively evaluated in five pediatric wards.•Sound and temperature levels were higher than desirable.•Standard rules would help to achieve better sleep conditions.
