Abstract
•Anti-corrosive azole and methacrylate based copolymer has been successfully synthesized.•Synthesized copolymers act as successful coating against corrosion of mild steel.•Imidazole with methacrylate based copolymers coatings exhibit mixed type of corrosion protection.•Water contact angle measurement indicates the hydrophobic nature of the copolymer film on mild steel surface.•Surface characterizations like SEM-EDX, AFM and FTIR also confirm corrosion protecting behaviour of the copolymer.
