摘要
This study evaluated the effects of a proprietary spearmint extract (Neumentix TM ), standardized to rosmarinic acid and total phenolic content, on measures of cognitive function, sleep, and study product tolerability in men and women with age‐associated memory impairment (AAMI). Participants (N = 90; 67% female; age = 59.4 ± 0.6 y) were randomly assigned (n = 30/group) to consume 900 mg, 600 mg, or 0 mg Neumentix once daily at breakfast for 90 days. A computerized cognitive function assessment test battery (Cognitive Drug Research [CDR] system) was completed on days 0, 45, and 90. Fasting blood samples were collected to assess tolerability and sleep was evaluated using the Leeds Sleep Evaluation Questionnaire (LSEQ) on days 0 and 90. Mean supplementation compliance over the 90 day period was 100.1 ± 0.4%, 99.1 ± 0.8%, and 98.1 ± 0.9% for the 900 mg, 600 mg, and 0 mg Neumentix groups, respectively. Quality of working memory and spatial working memory accuracy improved on the CDR test battery following supplementation with 900 mg Neumentix versus placebo (p = 0.0469 and p = 0.0456, respectively). Participants consuming 900 mg Neumentix reported improvement in their ability to fall asleep on the LSEQ, relative to the placebo group (p = 0.0046). No serious adverse events or clinically relevant findings were observed in any tolerability parameters at any dose. These results suggest the proprietary spearmint extract, Neumentix, was well tolerated and a beneficial nutritional intervention for cognitive health in older subjects with AAMI.
