Therefore, it is more and more difficult to identify the remaining oil. Faults are one of the principal factors influencing the distribution of the remaining oil. For accurately describing the distribution of the remaining oil, the accuracy of fault characterization needs to be improved. Fault interpretation quality is difficult to reach the requirement of oil field developing, because the surface seismic vertical resolution and image quality is limited. This paper proposes the fault characterization techniques by well and seismic integration taking the advantage of densely spacing seismic data and high resolution well data. The fault distribution spatially can be characterized for better remaining oil identification. This method has been applied to many blocks in Daqing Changyuan Oilfield to increase the combination success rate of breakpoints and identification of fault space distribution. It provides important basis for a better development and production adjustment. With data in dense well spacing area, two traps are proved to exist in the interpretation of seismic data. First, there is misleading the fault properties and tectonic characteristics under the bigger fault which cut through shallow low-velocity layers. Second, the interior of some faults which show a smooth fault surface in seismic data is a fracture zone which composed of multiple faults with crushing surface.
